Robert “Evel” Knievel (I guess the nickname Evel was picked because it had a rhythmic sound when used with Knievel), was on “Hour of Power” and at the Crystal Cathedral recently and gave testimony to his faith in Jesus Christ. I haven’t seen the program yet, but a friend promised me a recorded copy. I have read a little of Knievel’s story though and it sounds like he had a genuine and dramatic conversion experience. Floyd Landis – May Not Be Given a Fair Chance to Prove Innocence
April 26, 2007I’ll admit I want to believe that Floyd Landis is not guilty of doping during the 2006 Tour de France. I cheered and laughed as Landis mustered up the strength and fortitude to drop the field on the mountains of the 17th stage. It was one of the most incredible athletic feats I have ever witnessed. I want it to be real. With all my heart I want to believe Landis won the Tour because of his training, experience, courage, heart and talent and not because he put chemicals in his body that gave him an unnatural and unfair advantage over his competitors. Back to Jerusalem
April 25, 2007I just finished reading “Back to Jerusalem: Three Chinese House Church Leaders Share Their Vision to Complete the Great Commission.” In this book Paul Hattaway recounts the stories of the house church in China and how God has developed a missionary vision and passion among Chinese believers. 20/20 and the SBC on Sexual Predators
April 21, 2007Last Friday night 20/20 ran a segment on sexual predators in Protestant churches. The focus ended up being on Southern Baptist Churches and leaders. I’m a little late on getting around to commenting on this subject. My wife and I went away for a nice weekend getaway in Branson. Our church family gave us a gift certificate to stay at Big Cedar Resort. Man, it is nice. We got a cabin with a Jacuzzi and a fireplace. Peaceful, restful, romantic…I digress. When we returned home Monday I had a root canal, Tuesday a man in our church had major surgery, Wednesday I traveled to Norman to conduct the funeral of a young lady who died from breast cancer. So, you can, I think, I understand my delay.
Back to the subject at hand…. Read the rest of this entry ?

The Jesus Tomb
April 12, 2007The “Jesus family tomb” discovery is turning out to be a lot of nonsense. It seems like everyone is jumping ship. According to the Jerusalem Post the scholars who seemed to be supportive of the theory are now backing away from their previous assertions. You can read the story here. Read the rest of this entry ?

I Want a Camp of My Own
April 10, 2007I was watching TV when “breaking news” broke on the (don’t scream) Anna Nicole story. Apparently the DNA tests are done and we are going to find out the who the real dad is. I don’t care and that is not the point here anyway. Read the rest of this entry ?

Pelosi Dragging Her Feet on Funding Troops
April 9, 2007Matt Drudge is reporting on the Drudge Report that the GOP is calling Nancy Pelosi to task for staying away from the job and slowing the process of getting funding for the troops. Drudge puts a rather damning photo of Pelosi window shopping for expensive jewelry at the top of his report. The implication of the picture is she ought to be working not shopping. Of course, we all know how the press game is played and who knows when that picture was taken or what the acutal context of that moment was. Read the rest of this entry ?

April Snow – Poor Peach Trees
April 7, 2007
Those white specs you see are snow flakes. After it was 85% here on Monday afternoon, by Thursday night this is what we had – snow! More poor peach trees actually did have some peaches already growing. After two nights of below freezing temperatures I am pretty sure my peach crop is done for the year. It’s not that big of a deal for me. My peach trees are a hobby. I feel for the growers in Porter. They have got to be hurting right about now.
