“No Compromise, The Life Story of Keith Green”

June 21, 2007

Every year when I head off to camp I do the same thing. I take a book or two along with the thought that I will have a lot of good reading time. Well, it never happens. I always end up doing other stuff and going home wondering why I carted those books half way across the state and back. Praise God, this year was different. I was determined to read a book while at camp and I accomplished it. Not only that, it was a great read and a blessing to my life. Some time back I picked up a used copy of a biography on the life of Keith Green written by his wife, Melody, and David Hazard. The title fits the life – “No Compromise.”

Keith’s life story inspired me to strive for a deeper walk with my Lord Jesus. His Christian life was far from perfect, sometimes legalistic, but always passionate, fervent and committed. Keith seemed to take what Christ said at face value and sought to live it out the best he understood it at the moment. He had a prophetic voice and made an incredible difference in the world in the short time he lived as a follower of Christ.

I highly recommend you read this book. It will challenge and inspire you to walk faithfully with Christ.

You can buy this through Amazon.com.

Cycling and the Spiritual Life – When You Don’t Feel Like Doing This Anymore

June 19, 2007

The past couple of weeks I have been struggling. Riding my bike has seemed to lose its appeal. I’ve been making myself ride, but it has been tough. It’s not all mental either. Riding last night was tough. The hills were hard, the wind was hard and the miles were hard. Normally, I enjoy the suffering those of those challenges. In the past when I overcame them I would thump my chest and laugh at the long climbs, the gusting air and the long distances and call them losers. Not lately. Lately, they have been the ones doing the laughing. Even going downhill has lost something. I remember going down hill pedaling as fast as I could, head over handlebars, back straight and feeling the need for speed. Now, those downhill sections of blacktop are just opportunities to rest my burning legs and coast a while. They provide me relief but they don’t fill me with joy like they once did. Will Professional Cycling Survive?

June 7, 2007

Here we go again: Belgian officials conducted a raid today and have taken several people associated with cycling into custody.  You can read the details of the story at:  Cylcingpost.com, VeloNews.com, and Cylcingnews.com.  Although names have not yet been released, the reports are that the raid focused on Team Quickstep. Of course, team leaders, riders and coaches are issuing their denials. I believe in the principle of “innocent until proven guilty,” but after a while a denial of doping by anyone associated with pro-cycling rings somewhat hollow. Read the rest of this entry ?

Global Warming Fascists

June 6, 2007

Recently Michael Griffin, the head of NASA, made comments in which he expressed his views about global warming. Apparently Mr. Griffin committed the unforgivable sin of disagreeing with the Global Warming Fascists. Now he has come out and apologized for expressing his personal views on the matter. MSNBC has an article about it here. Read the rest of this entry ?

June 4, 2007

According to an article in the June 4, 2007 “Daily Oklahoman,” some people would like to see a 1,000 foot tall statue of Jesus towering over the city of Oklahoma City. Mayor Nick Cornett asked for people to submit ideas for the next phase of OKC’s MAPS projects. He asked them to dream big. Read the rest of this entry ?
