Simeon’s Moment

December 24, 2007

For the most part, Christians have surrendered the arts to the world.  That is why I am thankful for people like Ron Dicianni.  It had to have been over ten years ago that I was reading through an article in a periodical put out by Last Days Ministry and saw “Simenon’s Moment” a painting by Dicianni.  Dicianni captured what must have been the emotion of that day when the old man, Simeon, took the child, Jesus into his arms.

I love the title – “Simeon’s Moment.”  It expresses what I believe was true of Simeon.  He experienced the greatest joy and deepest satisfaction in his life the moment he saw and held the Christ.  A moment in time where all the longing of the years was satisfied, all his hopes and dreams fulfilled and he was able say “now your servant can depart in peace.”
To have a moment like that…

I have spoken several times over the years about this painting and my wife had apparently picked up on my appreciation for this work.  So this year she gave me one of the best Christmas gifts ever… a framed copy of “Simeon’s Moment.”

I hope you have a Merry Christmas and may Jesus Christ be the one in whom you discover your “moment.”`

Mike Huckabee – followup

December 18, 2007

American Thinker ran an interesting article on Mike Huckabee.   The author, Selwyn Duke, fears that evangelicals will make the same mistake with MH that they made with Jimmy Carter.  His main complaint is Huckabee’s past stances and actions related to illegal immigration.  These things are going to unfold in the next few weeks and we will see how it plays out.  My feeling is any candidate who comes up with a credible and strong plan to deal with illegal immigration will make some strong strides.  Maybe Thompson will get it done, but he will have to learn how to communicate it in a brief, clear and concise way.

I’m sitting in Cappucino Corner, a local coffee shop, because we have no electricity at home or at the church and may not for several days. It is cold and dark in both places. I have camped out here because they have electricity, heat and WiFi internet access as well as coffees and teas. PICTURES BELOW… Read the rest of this entry ?

House Church Movement

December 4, 2007

George Barna, who once carried the water for the seeker sensitive movement, has now come to the conclusion that the future lies in the “house church movement.” He may be right and I have nothing against a guy changing his mind. I change mine at least three times a day just to make sure I’m right at least once. This has led me to do some reading and studying on the issue. The most important source book is the Bible. As I read the Scriptures I do find that “church” today in the Western world looks only slightly similar to the church of the New Testament. Read the rest of this entry ?

Trusting God Leads to Action

December 3, 2007

Back to my discussion on trust in God…

Most people are prone to think of trust and faith as something that requires, by its very nature, doing nothing. After all, if you are going to believe God, just stand back and wait and see what he does. Nothing could be further from the truth. Action and doing are not opposed to trusting and believing.
