Green Bay Packs it In for 2007
January 21, 2008I was quite disappointed with my Packers last night. I was absolutely convinced everything was in their favor for the NFC Championship game. They didn’t have to go to Dallas, where they never seem to be able to win. They were playing at home. It was bitterly cold and outside, which has historically been in their favor. They were playing some of their best football coming into this game. But alas they lost.
For some reason (possibly great New York defense) the Pack couldn’t move the ball. Ryan Grant, who was outstanding the previous week, wasn’t accomplishing anything in the running game. The screen pass was a miserable failure all game long and they kept going back to it trying to make it work.
The football gods tried to give Green Bay the game. Two missed field goals, and interception by McQuarters that he fumbled back to Green Bay, a defense that kept making mistakes at the wrong time, no offensive production and it was tied up at the end of regulation. Then, they win the coin toss and all they have to do is get the ball into field goal range, kick it, and they are on the way to Arizona.
One interception later and they lose.
After a good night of sleep I have come around to realizing that there is some good that has come from this game. First, since they didn’t win the Super Bowl and they did make it all the way to the NFC Championship game, and they are so young I am going to assume that Brett will be back for at least one more year. That is a good thing. As I said, they did make it to the NFC Championship game. I certainly didn’t expect them to play this well. No one else did either. So I am happy with the coaching staff, the new players and the future looks bright for at least the next year.
So today I look forward to next fall when I can say once again, “The Pack is Back.”
