Why President Obama Turns His Head Side-to-Side

February 25, 2009

As others have noticed President Obama has a habit of looking left and right while speaking – never straight ahead.  The mysterious reason for this curious habit was revealed last night in his address to Congress.

He looks right when he wants to sound like a conservative – personal responsibility, tax relief, freedom, capitalism, hard work, etc.

He looks left when he talks liberal socialism – bigger government, fewer freedoms, more intrusion, higher taxes, government control, etc.

Which is the real Barak Obama?

People, prior to the election, kept criticizing those who would point out Barak Obama’s long-standing association with radical leftists.  The reason these associations were important to point out is that they show us who the real Obama is.

He is smart – smart like a fox.  He talks like a conservative because he knows that the country is mostly right of center.  But the truth is President Obama is taking this country down a socialist path as fast as possible.

He is shredding the Constitution, ignoring history, and arrogantly following his belief that he is able to make something work that has never worked anywhere – socialism.

He is using the economic downturn to scare everyone into letting him do whatever he wants.

I find these things despicable.

And we are only one month in to this disaster.

Wealth Guilt – How Much is Too Much?

February 23, 2009

Due to the current economic conditions a new cultural trend is developing.  Equating wealth with evil and creating guilt for being financially sucessful is popular right now.

Jim Calhoun had a confrontation with a reporter over his pay scale as a basketball coach.  Here is the YouTube video:

The Oscars were last night.  I didn’t watch because I didn’t care.  But I was watching the news this morning and they were rehashing the previous nights happenings.  It struck me as odd that the Hollywood stars were apologetic about their fancy duds.  They were clearly uncomfortable with their wealth.

A few weeks ago Congress made a big deal out of how much money bank executives get paid.

Man, if you are making money you are a target in today’s climate.

I’m no defender of Hollywood, D1 basketball coaches or bank executives.  but I do think it is a shame we are going to resort to guilting everyone who has done well.

I’ve never owned a mansion and never wanted one.  I’ve never been on a private jet and don’t care if I ever am.  I drive a paid for Ford truck with 175,000 miles.  I wear my clothes till they wear out and I don’t mind.

I don’t resent those who have more than me.

Most of the time we only think the people who have more than us have more than they need.

The Shack

February 19, 2009

A friend of mine, Jana, asked me this week if I had read “The Shack.”  Of course, I scolded her for not reading my blog or she would have known I had read the book.  She asked my opinion and once again I said you need to read the blog.

Well, I wrote two posts and intended to go into more detail about the book, but I just haven’t had the time.  Not necessary.  Sometimes you find someone who says what you are thinking and says it better than you could have anyway.

So with that in mind here are links to two reviews that I highly recommend.  First, Tim Morrison has a well written review.

Second, Mark Driscoll devoted a sermon to the book.  You can watch it at Mars Hill’s web site.

You Can’t Make This Stuff Up

February 18, 2009

President Obama was out in Arizona today. He has been jetting around burning up more fuel and money than 10 families will in a lifetime (and that is just this week).  Well, he was announcing his grand plan to save everyone’s home from foreclosure.

During his speech, President Obama,  had the audacity (of hope I assume) to say that we all are going to have to learn how to live within our means again.

Sounds good if it is coming from Dave Ramsey, but not so credible coming from the lips of the guy who led the charge to double the national budget deficit in ONE MONTH!!!  I mean come on!!!!  Don’t lecture me about living within my means when you clowns are out there burning through money like a sailor on leave in San Francisco.

Oh, wait it gets better:  After more than doubling the size of the deficit in just one month, President Obama will host a “fiscal responsibility summit” some time next week.

You really can’t make this stuff up.

Stimulating Liberalism

February 13, 2009

We are witnessing one of the most disgraceful acts in American political history happening on Friday the 13th.  The so-called stimulous bill is going to be passed today.  My great-grandchildren will still be trying to pay for this boondoggle.

Here is what is wrong with it -

It is not a stimulous bill.  The economy is being used as a “crisis” that needs imediate action.  Obama and his merry men are using fear tactics to get all the things they want to spend money on passed without anyone really knowing what they are paying for.

It is dishonest, underhanded, deceptive, immoral, lacking in integrity and downright anti-American.  If they want the things they are sticking in this bill, create the legislation bring it before Congress, have it debated and voted on.  They don’t want to do that because they know that the majority of this nonsense wouldn’t pass muster with the American people.

It is impossibility for this bill to be read by anyone in Congress before they vote on it.

Obama lied when he said that there would be transparency and people would have the opportunity to read the bill before it was voted on.

Nancy Pelosi wants to hurry and have it passed so she can run off to Europe on tax-payer money tonight.

The Congressional Budget Office has already said this won’t help the econonmy.  A multitude of economists said that it won’t help.

We are spending billions of dollars we don’t have.  We are monetizing this debt.  That means we are simply printing up the money to pay for it.  The end result is the devaluing of the dollar and most likely inflation spiraling out of control very soon.

The bill is full of pay offs to ACORN and big-unions.

This is a travesty.

Is this change we can believe in?

Unintended Consequences and South Africa

February 11, 2009

Not all that many years ago South Africa was on the radar screen of almost everyone. The practice of Apartheid made South Africa the target of a multitude of political forces.  Hollywood was on board.  Nelson Mandela became the hero.  He eventually became the President.

Clearly, something had to  be done about Apartheid.  It was a wrong and an evil that had to be righted.  But once apartheid was overthrown South Africa was forgotten.  Hollywood moved on to the next cause.  So did the politicians.

What is it like today?

I have a friend (whom I will leave nameless for his protection) who is a citizen of South Africa.  He loves his homeland and the people of South Africa.  Here is what he tells me is happening now.

The ANC, once led by Nelson Mandela, has declared that they will not tolerate a challenge by any other political party and that they would wipe out the opposition in South Africa in 2009.   The Communist Youth Movement President had said they would kill anyone who hinders Jacob Zuma, the corrupt Presidential candidate of the ANC, from becoming President of South Africa.

They are carrying through with their threats and have already killed a number of political opponents.  Fear has begun to grip the citizens in some areas.

The ANC has already announced who the government leaders will be after the elections.  It includes the Communist Youth Movement President who has threatened to kill opposition and Winnie Mandela who was convicted of many fraud charges and accused of murders for which she was never tried.

Jacob Zuma has hundred of fraud charges against him and the Appellate Court has ruled that the National Prosecuting Authority must proceed with a trial.  The ANC has vowed to make South Africa ungovernable.  They say they will bring everything in the country to a halt if Zuma is tried.

Cholera has spread from Zimbabwe into South Africa through the water channels.  Many have died already and thousands are ill.

To make the situation even more dire, people from neighboring countries are illegally streaming into the country.  Many are coming from Zimbabwe were the situation is incredibly dire.   Zimbabwe has no clean water anywhere because all the purifying machines have collapsed, they have no health care – all the hospitals have closed, and there are no schools open.

Pray for South Africa.  It ought to be a lesson to us that actions have consequences.  And sometimes the people we put in power are going to lead us where we want to go.  I know Mandela has saint status in most people’s minds.  But what he led South Africa into is an unmitigated disaster.

Stimulous or Power Grab

February 10, 2009

The enormous “stimulous” bill looks like it will get through Congress.  It looks like the Obama administration is more bent on consolidating Democrat power and instituting a radical liberal agenda than they are getting the economy turned around.  They are using ideas taken from radicals to get it done.  One of their tactics is to use the “crisis” to institute their plans without real debate.  We in America are going to wake up soon and wonder what the crap happened to our country.

One example is how they are slipping nationalized health care into this bill.  We are going to find out soon that our doctors are being dictated to by some beaurocrats in DC.  Health care is going to be rationed – especially if you are a senior citizen.  Inovation and growth in treatments for some diseases is going to come to a screeching halt.
